QWERTY is named after the first six letters in the top left of the keyboard. It is the most widespread layout in the world, but it comes in variants: the American, British, Dutch, Nordic, Swedish, Danish and Portuguese versions differ in where the punctuation sits and in the extra letters, not in the letters themselves.
With us you choose the layout per machine, not per model. Every laptop in the list above can be ordered with at least one QWERTY variant; which ones is shown on the product page itself.
Not sure which layout you have? Look at the key to the right of the L. A semicolon means QWERTY. An M means AZERTY. And if the Z sits where you expect a Y, it is QWERTZ.
Unsure about the layout?
The three layouts differ on only a handful of keys, and those are exactly the ones you use all day. Below are the other two and the article where we put them side by side.
Frequently asked questions about QWERTY keyboards
Can I choose the layout per laptop?
Yes. The layout is part of the configuration, just like the memory and the storage. The product page shows which layouts can be ordered for that machine.
What is the difference between US and UK QWERTY?
The letters are the same. The difference is the enter key, which is taller on UK, and where the at sign, the quotation marks and the pound sign sit.
Is a Dutch layout the same as US?
Almost. The Dutch layout is a US layout with access to accented letters. In practice most Dutch people type on US International.
Can the keyboard be replaced later?
On many business models the keyboard is replaceable. Whether that applies to your machine is shown on the product page; if in doubt, contact us before ordering.
